1. Psar Cha - Old Market

The main market, Phsar Banlung, is a relatively unextraordinary traditional market offering the usual range of items for local consumption. There is one souvenir shop in front of the market, and food stalls set up in front of the market in the evening.

Old Market (Phsar Chas) is a local market that is not at all geared to the tourist. It carries such items as fruits and vegetables, second hand cloths, hardware, motorcycle parts, and religious items. In the late afternoon food vendors and fruit sellers set up mats along Street 13 in preparation for the evening market. Located on the river at the south end of the Old French Quarter, Old Market ( Phsar Chas) is one of the popular markets open to the local people and the tourists as well.

Psah Chas is a market in the city of Siem Reap in northern Cambodia. Not to be confused with the similarly named Psah Chas in Phnom Penh, this is Siem Reap's most popular shopping experience for visitors. The outside stalls sell souvenirs such as silk, carvings, stoneware, faux vintage items, t-shirts, and paintings and photos of Angkor Wat temples. Further inside the market are fresh produce and seafood stalls. The food stalls are an excellent opportunity to sample authentic Khmer food, invariably served with the distinctive local Prahok, a type of fermented fish paste.

For the best experience, visit the Old Market (Phsar Chas) of Phnom Penh when it opens in the morning to spend all day exploring the fascinating charms of the market. The place begins shutting down at sunset, but the souvenir vendors at the south end of the market are an open way into the evening, beyond 8 pm. 2. Central Market
Established in 1937, Central Market, known locally as Phsar Thmei, is a unique Art Deco interpretation of a traditional market, with a well-designed dome forming the centerpiece. Stalls sell everything from jewelry, gems and trinkets to homeware, food, souvenirs and handicrafts. The central dome is surrounded by stalls. This market is popular with tourists, with prices reflecting that.

Jewelry, watches and gold stands dominate the central area under the dome. Some of the gems are real, from Cambodia’s near-exhausted gem fields, and most of the silver and gold items are real, though visitors will pay current trade prices, so don’t expect to get them for a steal.

3. Russian Market
Natively known as Phsar Toul Tom Poung, this market is another popular spot with the tourist crowd, who flock there to barter a bargain on the range of handicrafts and handmade goods sold there. They include woodcarvings, silks, musical instruments and miniature Buddhas. Clothes, accessories, bootleg CDs and DVDs, fruit and veg, household items, motorbike parts and everything in between can also be found in the spiderweb of stalls.

4. Orussey Market
Orussey Market is another authentic affair and can be daunting to the untrained. Spread across three floors, this is a cramped and crowded spot, with stalls selling everything from clothes, fresh food, household items, electronics and motorbike parts. Expect crowds and chaos, and come armed with heaps of patience.

Tourists can find everything from food, household items, garden tools and electronics on the ground floor to jewelry, tailors, fabric and clothing on the 2 other floors. The top floor is especially popular with locals as a factory-style outlet for a lot of the well-known brands that manufacture their clothes in and around the city.

5. Food Street
Cusine is always one of the most special features of each tourist attraction. When in Ban Lung, visitors should try some of the local street food. One of our favorite items was the grilled bananas near the central market. These are not so easily found outside Cambodia and Thailand, where they seem to be very popular.

One of the restaurants that are reputed to make some of the best coconuts shakes in Southeast Asia. The restaurant is aptly named the coconut shake restaurant. It is found at the northeast corner of the small lake that’s found North of Ban Lung’s central market area.
6. Pub Street
Sihanouksville isn’t the only place in Cambodia where people can enjoy cheap drinks. Tourists can also stroll down Pub Street, aptly named considering that the neighborhood is wall-to-wall with bars, which also offer traditional Khmer food on their menus.

7. Shop for beer, wine and spirits
Banlung attracts tourists for shops where visitors can buy beer or wine easily. South of the roundabout is four shops selling beer, wine and spirits, all a bit more expensive than more accessible places like Phnom Penh. The range of wines is modest, buffs would do well to bring a stock. The restaurant at the Motel Phnom Yaklom is starting to attract travelers for sunset drinks. It's on top of a hill and has beautiful views all day, but especially sunset. Call them and they'll drive you up the hill for free from your guesthouse and drive you back.
