The Covid-19 pandemic ( Coronavirus ) is at its full swing now and affecting almost all nations of the world. We have been though an incredibly difficult time, most of us cannot deny, Covid-19 has changed the way that a travel market will be, potentially forever. Russia, USA and Brazil are those countries with the highest number of infected cases in the world whilst infection and mortality rates in Asia are far below those of western counterparts. 

Though, travelling aboard is still under limitation due to Covid-19 worldwide outbreak, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar governments have proved theirselve in dealing with Covid-19 by immediately effective measures, these countries are bound to start reopening for international tourists along with new resolutions soon. You can find latest update on Covid-19 status, destination update and new government policy of how to get visa and re-enter our countries below. 


VIETNAM TRAVEL UPDATES

US magazine Travel + Leisure has listed Vietnam in the top 17 destinations for tourists after the Covid-19 crisis ends. In fact, Vietnam tourism is recovering from lockdowns and planning for international tourism recovery, the country ponders upon ways to bring travelers back to the incredible places ever seen. Vietnam likewise is honoured by WHO as a world leader in handling and treatment of the Covid-19 emergency by aggressive testing, contact tracing, public media and the widespread cooperation of local citizens.

In mid-July, Vietnam still shone as a Covid-19 outlier. No reported deaths, and months without a locally transmitted case. After 99 days with no active cases by community transmission are recored for weeks, Vietnam has 883 confirmed cases, most infected cases are oversea Vietnamese people coming back home and from Danang, 421 recovered cases have been discharged from quanrantined treatment areas. Additionally, Vietnam reports 18 deaths in a country of 95 million people and Vietnamese government lockdown Danang in August and still allows all businesses to open with safety precautions in other cities such as wearing masks at all times and keeping a distance of at least one meter. 

Reopening Process: 

  • Domestic flights have resumed operations as expected. Many hotels and resorts across country have reopened and launched big promotion campaign in this summer. 
  • Vietnam tourism ministry is proactive in negotiation with Thailand tourism ministry on the exchange of bilateral tourists in the near future.
  • Based on the search data, Google has assessed the change of the travel trend in Vietnam due to the impact of Covid-19 epidemic as tourists have paid special attention to discounts of air tickets and hotel rooms, which has showed the positive signals in the recovery of domestic tourism in the country.
  • Vietnam Airline Carrier is developing plans to boost international markets and create more attractive tourism products for travellers when the Covid-19 pandemic is brought under control.
  • As of a signed 79/NQ-CP resolution by Prime Minister on 25 May, Vietnam will issue e-visa to citizens from 80 nations including Austria, Poland, Belgium, Portugal, the UAE, Germany, India, South Korea, the U.S., Italy, Finland, France, China, Brazil, Canada, Russia, the UK, Japan, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Norway, and more from 1 July. Current Entry Conditions:

  • From 22 March, Vietnam has suspended entry into Vietnam to all foreigners until further notice. 
  • Vietnamese nationals or diplomatic travelers who have permitted entry will be sent to medical camps for centralized quarantine for 14 days.
  • Based on signed 79/NQ-CP resolution, e-visa can be accepted at 8 airports, 16 land border gates, and 13 sea border gates of Vietnam as follows:

CAMBODIA TRAVEL UPDATES

Cambodia government is also doing their good job and limits confirmed cases at 122 whom have been discharged completely and has zero deaths so far. Nevertheless, restrictions remain in place as a preventative measure to ensure that the situation is under control. Apart from a one-week restriction of traffic for Khmer New Year in middle of April, Cambodian has continued their daily life as normal along with careful safety measures. 

Reopening Process: 

  • Restaurants and bars are open to serve guests. 
  • Hotels, particularly in the south (Kep, Kampot and Sihanoukville) are lauching special discount particularly on weekends. 
  • Domestic flights between Siem Reap and Phnom Penh have resumed services a few times a week in May and Cambodia Angkor Air will operate this route twice daily.
  • Museums will reopen in June 2020.

Current Entry Conditions:

  • From 21 March, all land borders between Vietnam and Cambodia (including waterway and air way), Cambodia and Laos, Cambodia and Thailand has been closed for all travelers until further notice.
  • From 20 May, Cambodia allows international foreign visitors including six countries: Iran, Italy, Germany, Spain, France and the United States to re-enter Cambodia. Please check health declaration below for entry condition. 
  • VOA (Visa on Arrivals) and E-visa are not accepted. Travelers are required to apply for visas at Cambodian Consulates or Embassies outside Cambodia.
  • Travelers will be in quanrantined area for 14 days or undertake 14 days of self-isolation on arrival. 
  • Deposit USD 3,000 for foreigner passenger at the airport to pay for the virus prevention services. Passengers can pay in cash or through credit cards. This amount will deduct for those who test negative for the virus will only be charged the fees for the test and will be given back the remainder of their deposit.

  • Foreigner will have to pay $5 for a single trip between the airport and the waiting centre, $100 for a COVID-19 test, $30 for a day’s stay at a hotel or at a waiting centre while waiting for the test results and $30 for three meals during waiting time for result. 

  • If any passenger tests positive for COVID-19, those on the same flight will be quarantined
    for 14 days and each will be required to pay $100 for one test and $84 dollars a day to pay for the stay in a hotel or quarantine facility, meals, laundry, sanitary services, doctors and security services.
     

Health Declarations:

  • Health screening is set at all airports, including temperature checks.
  • For urgent travel during the suspension period, all foreigners are now required to obtain a visa in advance. All travelers are required to have a valid Covid-19 health certificate issued by the health authority of their country and test with negative result within 72 hours before entering Cambodia and foreign travelers must have health insurance with a minimum of $50,000 during their stay in Cambodia.
     

LAOS TRAVEL UPDATES

Laos is also cautious in preventing Covid-19 outbreak and listed as one of the least-affected countries in Asia. While precautions are still undertaking to limit infected cases by Covid-19, businesses across the country are soon realizing a positive sign for a reopening.

Government Measures: 

  • Bars, Cinemas, karaoke and entertainment venues including outdoor sports venues are still closed until further notice. 
  • Domestic travel is not yet encouraged and people are still recommended to shelter in place. 
  • Travel between provinces is still banned except for emergency circumstances.
  • All entertainment venues remain closed.

Current Entry Conditions:

  • Since 20 March, total suspension in all types of visas (including tourist visa, visa on arrival, e-visa) at every entry point, all checkpoints remain closed. 
  • All international and inter-provincial and traditional borders remain closed to all people. 
  • Savannakhet International Airport has been temporarily closed until further notice.

Health Declarations: 

  • Health screening is performed at all airports, including temperature checks.
  • Gatherings of more than 10 people are not allowed and a permitted distance is more than 1 meter.


MYANMAR TRAVEL UPDATES

The Infection rate in Myanmar remains low relative to other countries due to strictly measure from government and total suspension of all international flights to Myanmar.  A national curfew has been applied for several regions although social distancing is not being imposed here. 

Government Measures: 

•    A national curfew has been imposed for residents of these regions below from 10:00 PM – 04:00 AM. Exceptions are made for medical and essential matters.
•    Sagaing Region: from 13 April 2020 until further notice
•    Mandalay: 9:00 PM – 4:00 AM from 16 April 2020 until further notice
•    All 45 Yangon townships: from 18 April 2020 until 18 June
•    Chaung Thar, Ngwe Saung, Shwe Taung Yan beaches, Gaw Yin Gyi Island and other beaches in the region not to allow local and foreign visitors up to May 15

Entry Conditions:

•    Total suspension in all types of visas ( traditional visa, visa on arrival, e-visa) at every entry point, all checkpoints remain closed. 
•    All international commercial flight arrivals have been suspended until 31 May 2020.
•    Land border are closed with neighbor countries until further notice. 

Current Health Declarations: Health screening is required at all airports, including temperature checks.
