In researching our upcoming holiday to Vietnam/Cambodia we were recommended to contact Threeland Travel as they could arrange a private group tour - we weren't interested in joining a large organised tour group. Our contact Linda, following input from us as to where/what we wanted to do put together numerous draft itineraries until we decided on the final tour. Linda was so helpful & accommodating & gave valuable advice throughout. She arranged a private tour for 4 - our own guide, bus & driver for each area we went to. We were amazed at the level of service as well as the quality of the service we received from each guide/bus driver. They looked after us as though we were their family. There were times when we wanted to change our itinerary as we went on our travels - no problem to do this - the unexpected does happen such as illness, too tired, just want to relax. We traveled throughout Vietnam then the Mekong River cruise into Cambodia - not one hitch. Our guides even assisted us to check in for each internal flight. A level of service we didn't expect. We stayed 5 star the whole journey as the prices provided to us by Linda made it an affordable option. We have since priced similar organized tours to the same areas & the pricing has been double for most tours. We couldn't believe what we got for the price we paid. We had the most amazing holiday at nothing but the best accommodation with exceptional guides & drivers in very good small buses with air conditioning & plenty of bottled water. All we had to do was have a great time, shop & enjoy all the Vietnam & Cambodia had to offer. With a small group tour we missed the problems that come with a large tour - we encountered one such tour on the Mekong River Cruise - and so pleased that we went with Threeland travel. Thank you Linda & all involved in making our recent holiday one to remember. We are definitely going through them again to explore this fascinating area more thoroughly. Highly recommend them.

Our trip was organised by Threeland Travel and all by email. Our party was made up of two couples. Everything was organised by this company from booking all the internal flights to all the hotels and all the transport and sightseeing. Also the restaurants were booked by them on our request as we asked for vegetarian meals. They did all these perfectly and we did not have a single problem with the whole of the tour as it was perfect from pick up from airport to next destination. We also had a night on the Junk Boat on the Halong Bay and the services of Grayline Cruise was a Five Star service by them. Must mention the hotels  all these chosen by Threeland were excellent. Indian Restaurants were Ganesh Restaurant who has branches all over Vietnam and others were Little India in Hanoi. All these was organised by Alex at Threeland Travels who are based in Hanoi. Highly recommended for people who want to travel to Vietnam and Cambodia.

Threeland Travel organised a private 15 trip for me in Vietnam & Cambodia (Hanoi, Halong Bay, Hue, Hoi An, Saigon, Siem Reap). I found Threeland over the internet and was guided by very positive reviews of other travellers in this forum. Albeit a bit nervous about sending a down payment (50% of local trip costs) to an unknown agency, I must admit that I was not disappointed anywhere. Threeland operators Alex and Mia of the Hanoi office diligently planned the trip, responded quickly to all my many queries beforehand and organised a visa on arrival for me. Upon arrival I was greeted at every airport by very friendly and knowledgeable private guides and very careful drivers. The guides are very knowledgeable about the history of the nation and the places visited, but I enjoyed particularly learning more about the present life of residents in discussing with them. All **** hotels selected were more than adequate and centrally located and all preselected meals were in very nice restaurants offering a plentiful variety of local foods. I have really nothing to complain about and can recommend Threeland to any traveller to organise a trip to Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos or Myanmar. If I go again to this part of the world, I would for sure entrust Threeland Travel to organise my local trip. My only advise to travellers interested in going to Vietnam would be not to try combining North and South Vietnam in one trip due to very different climate zones. I did so, but in March Hanoi and Halong Bay were still too cold and rainy to truly enjoy the beauty of it. For the North July & August are best months, for the South November and December- then temperatures are only in the mid 20 degeee celsius range. Hoi An in the center is touristy but a very pleasant place, also offering travellers a choice to spend a few days to rest on the beautiful beach. Saigon is a vibrant metropolitan city worth spending 3 days but do not go to the Mekong delta unless you spend time over there overnight (only then you can see the floating markets). Angkor Wat is definitely worth seeing, but 2-3 days are fully sufficient there - you will see any how so many temples during your trip that you will hardly be able to remember all of them !

Ms Linda from Threeland arranged the perfect itinerary for just me and my husband. We spent 9 days in Vietnam and 5 days in Cambodia. All the tour guides and drivers were very professional and courteous. Mr. Guam(??) from Gray Line Cruise on Halong Bay was attentive, knowledgeable and fun. The VIP suite on the Gray Line Cruise was so luxurious. We love Cambodia. The people are so friendly and the prices are so reasonable. Our tour guide in Siem Reap gave us insights to life during the Pol Pot regime along with history of Angkor Wat. He knows all the short cuts bypassing the busy crowds. The accommodations on the tours were all good except the Elios Hotel (senior superior room). We had problems with leaky air conditioning unit and poor drainage in the shower, but the hotel staff very quickly moved us to a grand deluxe room after we informed them of the problems. We will definitely use Threeland again for our next Asia travel and recommend you to our friends.

Laos Overview

Laos - The Land of a Million Elephants

Laos is the only country in Indochina that is completely surrounded by land from all sides. From Myanmar and China to the northwest, Cambodia to the south, and Thailand to the west and southwest, one thing that Laos doesn’t have is beaches.

However, what this beautiful country does have to offer seems to be better than most. Hopping on one of the Laos tours can turn out to be one of your best decisions to date since this beautiful country is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered and explored. From the ancient temples of Luang Prabang to trekking through remote villages and lush green valleys, a tour to Laos is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

But more than the monuments and the nature of Laos, the country is a mixture of cultures and traditions due to the rich and equally interesting history that this country has witnessed. Naturally, any Laos holiday package becomes incomplete without first knowing its history.

The History of Laos

The kingdom of Lan Xang (translated to Million Elephants, hence the name) was founded in the 13th century A.D. by a Lao Prince whose father was exiled from the Khmer Empire (Cambodia).

Around the turn of the 19th century, Laos was attacked by its neighboring countries and war was common for a while. It was during this time that France rescued King Oun Kham was rescued. Luang Phrabang fell under the regime of French Indochina. In 1953, the country got its independence and a war broke out to decide the future of Laos.

In the end, it was decided that Laos would follow a communist regime, and in 1975, the country was officially renamed as Lao People's Democratic Republic. From the warrior kings of old to the modernism of governance, Laos has a plethora of things to offer and explore. But, what’s the best time for your vacations in Laos?

When Should You Visit?

This beautiful country can be called a year-round destination. However, when it comes to travelers and their choices, there are two major seasons in Laos during which you can plan your Laos trips.

We personally recommend visiting Laos during the dry season where the temperature stays a pleasant 77°F (25°C) to 86°F (30°C). There is minimal rainfall during the months of October to April (with the months of November to February being the coldest) and is considered the peak tourist season. You can take part in many of the popular outdoor activities like hiking in the jungles and take part in the Lao New Year (in April).

On the other hand, if you are one of the people who prefer the road-not-taken, then the wet season would be indeed an ideal time for you. From the months of May to September, it often rains with heavy downpours. However, this is also the time when Laos is at its most verdant green.

Exploring waterfalls in all their majesty or cruising along the Mekong River at its full are some of the experiences that you can expect during the wet season. As always, Threeland Travel will be there to make a customized package for you, no matter the season. Decided on when you should visit Laos? Well, this country will indeed take your breath away with its wonderful places to visit and experiences to feel.

And as every traveller is unique, so are our customized packages and tour options. From luxury tours to travelling the country your way, Threeland Travel ensures that your travel itinerary should be as unique as you.

Places & Experiences of Laos

From ancient temples to visiting modern cities, there are a plethora of things that make up a Laos travel package. However, here are some of the iconic places that you should visit during your trip to this Southeast Asian country.

Places to See

  • Vientiane
  • Luang Prabang
  • The Plain of Jars
  • Si Phan Don
  • Vang Vieng

And alongside these wonderful places, there are hundreds of things to do. Some of the iconic experiences that you can take part in are:

Things to Do

  • Go Kayaking in Vang Vieng.
  • Swim in the cool waters of the 4000 Islands (Si Phan Don).

  • Visit the Plain of Jars where thousands of ancient stone jars from Greece are scattered.

Of course, the list doesn’t end there since they are just the starting point to a country with hundreds of things to offer thousands of tourists visiting this iconic place every year.

The Culture of Laos

The culture of Laos is deeply influenced by the philosophies and beliefs of Theravada Buddhism from its neighboring countries. The core of their beliefs lies in respecting everything around them with special care towards elders and monks.

The values and traditions have been passed down generations which make Laos a place of ancient traditions with a hint of modernism. From the various Laotian art forms like wood carvings, traditional music, and dance, to tasting the local Laotian cuisine, this country can never stop amazing you.

The Delicacies of Laos

Being a blend of delightful flavors and enhanced by the unique Laotian culture, the delicacies of Laos are quite famous. From street foods to fine dining, the land of a million elephants has a plethora of things to offer.

  • Laap - A flavorful meat salad made with different types of meat.
  • Khao Soi - An aromatic noodle soup with coconut milk (must-try!).
