World Cultural Heritage Imperial Citadel of Thang Long - Hanoi
The complex of relics from the former capital Hue and the main relic site of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long—Hanoi—are examples of Vietnam's five current global cultural heritages and serve as reminders of the beauty and diversity of the country's natural settings. Yet, it draws a lot of local and foreign tourists due to its rich history and national cultural identity. Let discover Vietnam by these important cultural heritages.
Complex of Hue Ancient Capital - The first World Cultural Heritage in Vietnam
The complex of Hue Monuments, which was constructed by the Nguyen Dynasty at the start of the 19th century, is one of Vietnam's cultural landmarks and a popular destination for both local and international tourists. Moreover, UNESCO designated this as Vietnam's first national treasure in December 1993.
According to criteria number 4, the Complex of Hue Monuments is a World Cultural Heritage because it has satisfied the following conditions:
A typical architectural complex of a significant historical era;
+ Represents singular artistic achievements, masterpieces made by human hands;
+ Having great value in terms of construction techniques, architectural art in an urban development plan;
+ A program to beautify the landscape in a cultural area of the world.
+ Closely linked to historic figures, defining ideas or views, or significant events.
Along the Perfume River's banks is where you'll find the Complex of Hue Monuments. 13 Nguyen monarchs ruled over Hue from 1802 to 1945, building 253 works in the Citadel, 7 clusters of mausoleums, Ho Quyen, the Nam Giao shrine, and the Hon Chen palace.
Three citadels stand out in the complex of Hue monuments: the Imperial Citadel, the Imperial Citadel, and the Forbidden Citadel. They are placed throughout in opposing directions on a South-North axis. This complex of citadels and palaces, which is surrounded by the Ngu Binh mountain, Huong Giang stream, Gia Vien dune, and Boc Thanh dunes, exhibits a tasteful fusion of Eastern and Western architectural quintessence.
Understanding the Vietnamese kings' personalities via their tomb
The life and character of the deceased owner are shown in each tomb built by King Nguyen:
+ Tomb of Minh Mang: The majestic and peaceful place in the middle of the forest, mountains, lakes and ponds is cleverly embellished, you can see the great will of a talented politician and the dignified personality of a regular poet.
+ Tomb of Gia Long: rustic but majestic in the middle of the mountains and forests, making viewers feel the heroism of a war general who has experienced hundreds of battles.
+ Tomb of Tu Duc: This poetic and lyrical site, which was primarily made possible by human sophistication, conjures up images of men bearing great loads of compassion from the unfulfilled hearts of kings.
+ Tomb of Thieu Tri: Deep, both deep and gloomy, protecting the field from being lonely, and also partially conveying the perspective of a poet who transcended literature but was unable to connect with his forebears in politics.
World Cultural Heritage Imperial Citadel of Thang Long - Hanoi
One of the most significant structures in the Vietnamese monument system, along with the complex of Hue monuments, is the Thang Long Imperial Citadel. In July 2010, Vietnam designated Thang Long Imperial Citadel as a UNESCO Cultural Heritage site. With three excellent criteria:
+ The one and only proof of the long-standing cultural tradition of the Vietnamese in the Red River Delta throughout historical eras.
+ The one and only proof of the long-term cultural exchange process, as the Red River Delta was the site of many outside cultural influences as well as many theories and ideas about the universal worth of human civilization, which helped to create distinctive features. Distinctive and innovative for a national hub of politics, commerce, and culture.
+ Direct ties to several significant historical occurrences in the country, the region, and the world. A certificate designating the main remnant of Thang Long Imperial Citadel - Hanoi as a UNESCO World Heritage Site was presented by Ms. Irina Bokova, Director General of UNESCO, during the opening ceremony of the 1,000th anniversary of Thang Long - Hanoi on October 1, 2010. For the city of Hanoi's authorities, culture is a global legacy.
The Thang Long Imperial Citadel's primary relic has exceptional and unique worth.
The archaeological site of 18 Hoang Dieu and the remaining artifacts in the Hanoi Citadel, including the palace, Doan Mon, and the flagpole, make up this global cultural relic, which spans an area of more than 18,000 hectares. The Nguyen Dynasty's Kinh Thien, D67 house, Hau Lau, Bac Mon, wall, and eight royal gates.
The Imperial Citadel of Thang Long has seen various modifications over the course of its 4,000-year existence, but its core, particularly the Forbidden City, has remained mostly untouched. Only the inside architecture has undergone extensive construction and renovation. This characteristic explains why layers of architectural relics and artifacts from several historical eras are layered on top of one another at the 18 Hoang Dieu archaeological site. The relationship between urban planning and architectural space, as well as the relationship between urban planning and architectural space as a continuation between dynasties in the history of building Thang Long capital, are clearly reflected in the relationship and interconnection between these monuments, which together form a complex but rich and beautiful continuous whole.
