If today is Sunday, begin the day at the vibrant Muong Hum Market. This colorful weekly gathering brings together ethnic groups from the surrounding mountains—such as the Hmong, Ha Nhi, and Dao—who come to trade everything from textiles to livestock. It's an immersive cultural experience full of energy, color, and tradition.
Afterward, drive to Sang Ma Sao village, the starting point of your trek up Ky Quan San, also known as Bach Moc Luong Tu. At 3,046 meters, it's the fourth-highest mountain in Vietnam, part of the Hoang Lien Son range. Known for its dramatic views, sea of clouds, and wild, untouched landscape, Ky Quan San is a favorite among serious trekkers.
The trail starts steep and challenging right from the beginning, winding uphill through forested paths. Around midday, take a break for a picnic lunch while enjoying a panoramic view of the valley below.
In the afternoon, continue trekking through thick forest and along high mountain ridges. Your goal is the base camp at 2,100 meters, often referred to as Salt Mountain by locals. The base camp is a simple wooden hut with basic facilities. It offers a thin mattress, warm blanket, and pillow—just enough for a night’s rest in the wild.
After enjoying the sunset from a nearby viewpoint, return to the hut for a quick wash using limited water, then gather for a rustic mountain dinner. Settle in and spend the night surrounded by the silence.

Wake up early to catch the sunrise above a sea of clouds—a breathtaking moment as the first light spills over the peaks. After breakfast at camp, gear up for another demanding day on the trail.
Today’s goal is the summit of Ky Quan San at 3,046 meters. Along the way, the views open dramatically—panoramic ridges, rolling clouds, and jagged peaks in every direction. It’s a tough push, but reaching the top is a powerful moment of reward. Take your time at the summit to soak it in.
Enjoy a picnic lunch at the top, surrounded by some of the most spectacular scenery northern Vietnam has to offer.
In the afternoon, descend via a different route that takes you down the other side of the mountain. The trail winds through a mix of forest and open terrain until you reach Base Camp 2, where you'll spend another night in the mountains.
The second base camp offers similar rustic accommodations. After a long day, take time to rest, enjoy the mountain air, and settle in for dinner before a well-deserved night’s sleep.

Enjoy a relaxing lunch and rest in a comfortable homestay, where you can finally unwind after your mountain journey. In the afternoon, stroll through the village or simply relax. You may also see local H’mong women weaving and making their traditional clothing by hand—an intricate, time-honored process that’s part of daily life here. Visitors are welcome to observe, ask questions, and learn more about the culture in a respectful, informal way.
Spend the night in this peaceful village, soaking in the quiet charm of the mountains and the rich traditions of the H’mong people.
