I like the cave more.. More than lagoon... Too many chinese people.. So crowd and noisy.. But on the cave you will see how amazing the nature from the creator...

We booked a private boat for four people the day before travelling. Two hours to the caves, which were interesting, but not outstanding. Just over an hour on the way back. Certainly glad we did it. To see the Me Kong river was the highlight.

Although extremely busy the Emerald Buddha is certainly something to see! The sheer respect and positive power of the Buddhism spiritual embrace was overwhelming to see. Visit the Emerald Buddha within the Great Palace and take time to reflect upon what you see

After reading that Blue Lagoon was overcrowded and full group tourists I did not expect much from it. Yes, there was a crowd around the tree that you can jump from but the other end was very quiet. Had a refreshing swim both before and after the cave. As for the other end, it was really nice to just sit and watch people jumping and enjoying themselves. All in all, a very nice place but you won't get that perfect Instagram shot unless you're early or good in Photoshop! The cave was very impressive. I don't know if we were lucky or if most people don't climb the steep, sweaty 10 minutes to get there but we were almost alone in there. The first thing you see is the reclining Buddha lying in the incense filled sunlight. After passing the Buddha the cave gets a lot darker so be sure to bring or rent a good flashlight. We followed the red arrows sprayed on rocks til the very end and saw impressive formations on the way. Some of them glimmered in the light of our flashlights.

The murals inside the main room are stunning and well kept up making the 10,000 Kip entrance fee worth it. No photographs are allowed inside (a normal policy). The Buddha’s surrounding the main temple are cool to see and walk by as well.

It’s a lot of fun to explore the caves and then afterwards enjoy a dip in the lagoonWe went in June, so although the water wasn’t as blue as in other months, it was still very relaxing and a great temperature. Be careful in the caves as it is easy to lose your footing. I wore flip flops which I regretted. I was still able to navigate my way through but it would be easier with sturdier footwear.

Make sure you grab the information pamphlet at the entrance because the explanations of the temples and grounds make the experience much more interesting.

Came back to see this because I felt guilty that I didn’t see it the first time and I’m glad I did. It is gorgeous. Water is cold but once you jump in and get on with it than it’s all good. We rented push bikes to cycle down to the lagoon and the views on the ride down were stunning. Family friendly as well which is perfect.

This was my favourite temple (of many!) in Vientiane - Wat Sisaket. Built in 1818, it is the only temple that wasn’t destroyed by the Siamese invasion in 1828. The hand painted walls inside the temple tell an amazing history and are beautiful. One drawback is that there is no information provided to help visitors learn about the history. I suggest reading up in advance to get the most value. I wish the Lao people invested more in sharing history with a small brochure or sign, but that is very rare.

Super crowded like everyone says and write. But if you wanna go to the cave walk through and climb up! It’s worth it. 10000 kip entrance. Walk through the blue lagoon 1 and climb up. If there is enough sun you don’t need the flashlight which they rent. You can use your phone. But be careful it might be slippery. Very nice to see when the sunshine is coming inside!
