Cambodia At A Glance

The stilt houses are amazing, can't believe people live like that! Very clever people. Unfortunately our boat kept getting clogged up with rubbish in the propeller, if the rubbish isn't stopped the tourists will stop going, which would be such a shame.

I traveled to Cambodia in a bulky knee brace (torn meniscus) and I had no issues with getting around Angkor Wat!! (Used walking sticks too!) ANYWAY... this truly was a place of wonder and WOW with the stone carvings (reliefs?), huge stone walkways and architecture. I wish we could if had a couple days - there was a lot to want to take in and truly experience. I wish I had read up in it before it got there!! I know now there are stories following the “wallpaper” like carvings on the walls- guess I need to go back!!

My wife and recently visited the stilted village of Kompong Phlok and the Tonle Sap Lake, we were the only ones aboard the boat apart from our guide. It was really interesting seeing the village so high above you as the water level is low, it is also hard to imagine that during the rainy season the water is almost up to the houses and many of the roads are flooded,the villagers changing their mode of transport from bikes / motor bike to boats. Passing the floating shop and school, fishermen and fisher women and also children in the water catching the fish was an experience, we could see the men holding the nets, while the women were beating the water to force the fish into the nets.You pass many floating houses before getting to the lake and we felt that seeing life on the river was actually better than the lake itself,on our return we had a lovely lunch at one of the river houses. After lunch we stoped at one of the many houses that were preparing the fish which had be caught that day to be dried and smoked,this was a family working together from the grandparents down to the young children. A fascinating day to see the village life,we would say a must do while in Siem Reap.

A "must visit" when you visit Cambodia. You should visit in the early morning to catch the sunrise moment since it's very beautiful!

My feet ache from all the walking but the place is beautiful from inside out, and its scale is huge. I still dont know how they built this place out of mud and stone with a rather small physique.

Such a beautiful area to witness, and made more special by the many families living on the lake. Always interest sight, plus a spectacular sunset in the evening. Book your cruise down to the late - you won’t be disappointed.

Absolutely stunning. This world heritage site is a must. Words alone can’t do it justice. We went very early then went later another day. The whole complex is vast and if you wanted to explore the all the temples your could spend a week or more here. Outstanding experience.

Tonle Sap is a local village that has houses on stilts and floating bungalows which are built to accommodate the rainy season. We went during the low season where you can see the scale of the houses. It is a very eye opening trip and shows a real side of how people live, outside of the usual tourist towns. Our trip was part of an organised tour so a local guide was already booked and paid for.

Definitely worth the visit. It is worth hiring a guide to understand the full history. It rained most of the day, don't forget to pack a umbrella.

We booked a private trip for our group of 4 before we went to Cambodia. Our guide was called Samnang and he was fantastic. I have just read the most recent reviews and can state categorically this was not our experience. We paid $10 each for a private boat to take us along the lake with stops at the floating villages It was a wonderful day. A few people did try and sell us goods, some we bought but had to be firm when we didn't want to purchase from certain people. There is poverty but all the children we met were well fed and happy !!!

Cambodias climate is hot and humid. The best time to visit the temples is early in the morning before it is too hot and miss the coach loads arriving later The restoration of the Temples is ongoing but what you see now is impressive and each one is different.One has been left as it was when rediscovered and has to be seen to be appreciated.Access has been greatly improved but some Temples can now be viewed only from the outside.One to put on the bucket list
