This is a must see in Yangon, if you at night you'll be surprised the number of worshippers. Ladies you will need to wear an ankle long skirt and cover up your shoulders. just beautiful!!

What an amazing place! We visited during rainy season & had to take cover at one stage but there are plenty of options. Foreigners aren’t allowed into the main temple but there is just so much else to see. It was quite busy but not packed with people, more bustling. There are stalls on the sides of the staircase and this is really the only place we were able to pick up souvenirs. Once at the top you pay admission to the main concourse. The concourse is huge and you just walk your way round. At various points there are Buddhas for different days of the week so you find the Buddha for the day of the week & part of the day you were born, then pour water over the Buddha’s head 3 times for luck. Maps are provided and the views from the lift area are stunning. Go back at night & get photos of it lit up.

This Temple is a must visit when you go to Yangon, Lots of small Tempe’s inside, need few hours to see many scared small to big pagodas, Buddha statues, Main pagoda Has lots of energy, it’s made of 30-40 tons of gold, you can also find a telescope and view the tip of pagoda, entry for foreigners around 5-10$.Not sure of prices have gone up.. Must see this place

One of the most beautiful places I have ever been to. A must visit if you ever get the chance. Very peaceful and worth every penny of the 10,000kyat entrance ticket.

Visiting this Pagoda was a high light during my stay in Myanmar. One may honestly speak of a deep spiritual experience, enriching my life forever. The impressive pavillions and buildings flanking the main Pagoda offer shady spots for gazing at this world wonder as well as interesting i sighrs in the rich spiritual and cultural heritage of this remarkable people. Being the leading people in generosity in this world becomes evident in their constant sharing. Not only generous donations to the Pagoda, their welfare organisations to help the poor. As I passed by I was asked to joint their festivities and share in the merits! After all that I was shy to realise that I was charged only 8000 kyat ($8) and happily donated extra in some donation box before leaving this extraordinairy place. I will surely return.

This ancient place of worship is worth the visit. It housed ancient relics and is believed to be the oldest Buddhist stupa in the world. Take lots of pictures while you’re there and be mesmerised by the sheer number of pagodas and praying temples. As it is a place of worship do wear proper attire for men and women. Wear long pants or their traditional longyi. The best time to visit is before sunset so that you can enjoy the sights during day and night time. Admission cost 10,000 Kyats for foreigners. Enjoy!

Went there early morning. Very few tourists. Fantastic place filled with peace. There are lifts for those not ready for the stairs. Remember it is a place of worship!

It was overwhelming to see the pagoda. Place of worship is a must see. Everyone is required to go barefoot in the premises and given the different entrances and exits, it's better to bring your footwear with you.

I have been multiple times; day and night. I prefer evening when the sun is setting and night time since it is more iconic. The guide will tell you some interesting part of the temple. About the Buddha's relics, the gem stone at the top of the Pagoda and the history. You can negotiate a good deal Shorts are not allowed. If in shorts you will be given a traditional wear. Also footwear is not allowed, you will have to leave shoes outside

There are many Pagodas and shrines which are very richly and intricately decorated as well as many statues of Buddha and other holy men. Statues and the shrines are almost all covered with pure gold leaves which seem glowing in bright sunshine. Although this place is teaming with visitors all the time it still has a calm and serene atmosphere all around it. We enjoyed our visit a lot here so will recommend the visitors of this city to come and pay a visit to this magnificent place at least once. This is my first time, visiting a pagoda that has an elevator inside. The pagoda has a lots of people on the day i visited but it was not so noisy at all. Everyone paid attention to their tour guides or praying. We also had an interesting experience by standing at our birthday corner and prayed. We both felt so peaceful when we were here!

I first visited the Shwedagon Pagoda in 1963, as a very young Merchant Navy cadet. I have been back six times since, including three times in the last three years. I believe that the magic of the place imprinted itself into my brain on that very first occasion and the passing of the years has only enhanced that feeling. A truly magical place.

Many people come to Yangon or even Myanmar simply for the Shwedagon Paya. It is definitely a must-see in Southeast Asia. The gigantic, encompassing golden stupa and the surrounding posts reflect the centrality of Buddhism in the country. Fortunately there are more local worshipers than tourists.
