Itinerary

  1. Welcome to Hanoi – Vietnam!
    Upon arrival, transfer from Noi Bai airport to the center of Hanoi then check-in at hotel. At leisure to relax and get rid of jet lag. Overnight in Hanoi. 
    •    Meal: None
    •    Please note: Hotel check-in time is around 14.00.
     

  2. Breakfast at hotel.  
    8.30 am: Tran Quoc Pagoda & West Lake. The bus and tour guide will pick you up from hotel in old quarter about 8 AM, driving to Tran Quoc Pagoda is located on an island east of West Lake (Tay Ho District), with 1500-year history, which is considered to be the oldest in Thang Long-Hanoi. It was the Buddhist center of Thang Long citadel in the Ly and Tran dynasties. With its historical and architectural values, Tran Quoc pagoda is famous for its sacred Buddha land, which attracts many Buddhists and visitors to Vietnam.
    9.30 am: Ho Chi Minh complex. Visitor to Ho Chi Minh complex (Ho Chi Minh mausoleum, the presidential palace, house on stilts, the final resting place of Uncle Ho, where He lived and worked from 1954 - 1969).
    11 am: Vietnam Museum of Ethnology. This is the most recent yet probably the largest and undoubtedly the most interesting Museums in Ha Noi and Viet Nam. There are both indoors and outdoors section, while the in – housed exhibition is particularly informative, the outdoors display and activities make the museum stand out from the rest. There are a number of houses modeling after the traditional architecture of ethnic minorities, especially those who live in Northern and Central highlands.
    12.30 pm: Lunch Time
    2 pm: The temple of literature (The first university in Vietnam). Being an ancient school of Thang Long and the first university in Vietnam, Temple of Literature is acknowledged as an ancient historical-cultural heritage which gives tourists deeper understanding about Hanoi's years of culture and tradition.
    3 pm: Hoa Lo prison. It was built in 1899. The French kept mainly political prisoners here along with those awaiting sentencing at the nearby Court of Justice, also where American pilots who had been shot down and captured were kept as prisoners of war. The pilots called it, sarcastically, the “Hanoi Hilton.” John McCain was held here at various times during his five and a half year as a POW.
    3.30 – 4 pm: Take the car back your hotel. Overnight in Hanoi.

    •    Please note: On Monday and Friday morning Ho Chi Minh mausoleum and museum are closed, instead by Vietnamese women museum. Short/reveal clothing is not allowed to come in mausoleum and temple.
     

  3. 07:30 am: Your journey begins as our guide picks you up from your hotel lobby in Hanoi's Old Quarter. From there, we will head north, driving toward the Chinese border for approximately three hours. Our first stop is Chi Lang Pass, a stunning 20km-long gorge nestled in a narrow valley between two mountain ranges.
    Chi Lang Pass holds a prominent place in Vietnamese history as the site of numerous victories against Chinese invasions dating back to 981 AD. Renowned as Vietnam's strongest citadel and bastion, it symbolizes resilience and national pride.
    Here, you’ll have about an hour to explore the area around the legendary Quy Mon Quan Gate, also known as the "Gate of Monsters." This evocative name reflects the historical invasions that once passed through the gorge, only to be repelled by courageous Vietnamese defenders.
    11:30 am: We’ll enjoy a delicious lunch at a local restaurant in Dong Dang. Following the meal, the journey continues deeper with visits to the serene Mother’s Temple and the historically significant Dong Khe, the site of the pivotal Battle of Dong Khe during the First Indochina War.
    Fought from September to October 1950, this battle marked the first major confrontation of the Indochina Wars and concluded with a decisive victory for the Viet Minh forces. The site offers a profound glimpse into Vietnam's storied past and the indomitable spirit of its people.
    4:00 pm: You’ll be welcomed into a warm and inviting homestay operated by a local Nung family. Here, you’ll enjoy a home-cooked dinner and an overnight stay, providing an authentic cultural experience to end the day.

  4. 7:30 pm: Start your day with a hearty breakfast at the homestay before departing for Trung Khanh, a picturesque district on the border with China.
    Your journey begins with a visit to the traditional village of Phuoc Sen, home to the Nung ethnic minority. Known for its skilled blacksmiths, this mountainous village has a rich heritage of crafting farming tools integral to the daily lives of its people. As you wander through the village, you’ll see how these tools contribute to the surrounding landscape of lush rice paddies and fields, offering a glimpse into a way of life shaped by centuries of tradition.
     Next, immerse yourself in the awe-inspiring beauty of Ban Gioc Waterfall, one of the largest and most breathtaking waterfalls in Asia. Spanning over 300 meters and straddling the border between Vietnam and China, the falls cascade majestically amidst lush green cliffs and serene landscapes. Here, you’ll have time to soak in the tranquil atmosphere, explore the area, and capture stunning photographs of this natural wonder.
     After enjoying the scenery at Ban Gioc Waterfall, you’ll continue to Nguom Ngao Cave, a spectacular underground marvel stretching over 2,144 meters. Filled with magnificent stalactites and stalagmites, the cave offers a striking contrast to the cascading waters of Ban Gioc. Exploring its depths reveals an otherworldly landscape that showcases the unique geological beauty of the region.
    12:00 pm: Check in the homestay and savor a delicious lunch prepared at your homestay, offering a taste of local cuisine. Afterward, take some time to rest and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
    2:00 pm: We’ll spend the afternoon kayaking along a serene river that winds through stunning rice fields. This activity provides a perfect combination of fun and sport, as you paddle through tranquil waters while soaking in the breathtaking natural scenery. It’s an excellent way to immerse yourself in the beauty of the countryside and enjoy some light exercise.
    7:00 pm: After your kayaking adventure, return to the homestay for a hearty dinner. Relish the home-cooked meal and enjoy a relaxing evening before retiring for the night in the cozy comfort of your homestay.

  5. 7:30 am: After breakfast, you’ll depart from your homestay and head down the scenic and winding “Snake Pass” to reach Ba Be Lake, a natural gem surrounded by lush forests and stunning karst landscapes. Upon arrival, you’ll check into a traditional Tay-style homestay owned and operated by a local Tay family.
    12:00 am: Enjoy a delicious home-cooked lunch prepared by your host family. After your meal, take some time to rest and recharge in the tranquil setting of the homestay.
    2:00 pm: Embark on a relaxing boat trip on the serene waters of Ba Be Lake. You’re free to choose how to spend your time onboard—either relax and soak in the breathtaking views of the surrounding karst formations and vibrant vegetation or take a refreshing swim in the lake’s cool, inviting waters.
    The boat journey will continue along the Nang River, offering you an opportunity to explore the fascinating Puong Grotto. This stunning cave system, carved by river erosion, is adorned with striking stalactites and stalagmites. You’ll also have the chance to observe a thriving bat colony, home to thousands of these remarkable creatures, adding a touch of wildlife adventure to your day.
    5:00 pm: After returning to the homestay, you’ll have the unique opportunity to join your friendly local host in preparing dinner. This interactive cooking experience offers a fascinating glimpse into the preparation of traditional Tay cuisine and allows you to immerse yourself in the local culture.
    8:00 pm: Savor the hearty dinner you helped create and enjoy the warm hospitality of the Tay family. Spend the evening relaxing and soaking in the peaceful ambiance of the surrounding countryside before retiring for the night in the cozy, traditional homestay.

  6. 7:30 am: Wake up to a delicious breakfast prepared by your host and start the day with a cup of coffee or tea while enjoying the serene views of Ba Be Lake.
    After breakfast, set off on a half-day cycling tour to sofly explore the picturesque villages surrounding the lake. As you ride through the countryside, you’ll have the chance to observe local life up close, witnessing how residents work in the fields and maintain their traditional lifestyle. This immersive experience offers a deeper connection to the culture and beauty of the region.
    1:00 pm: Return to the homestay after your cycling adventure for a lunch and a leisurely afternoon. Take this free time to relax, enjoy the tranquil atmosphere, or engage in personal activities at your own pace.

  7. 7:30 am: Breakfast and check out the homestay.
    Today, we’ll embark on a breathtaking journey through winding mountain roads as you make your way to Meo Vac, a part of the stunning Dong Van Karst Plateau, a UNESCO Global Geopark. Along the way, you’ll pass through charming tribal villages, where you’ll have the opportunity to stop and observe the unique lifestyles and traditions of the local communities.
    11:30 pm: Having lunch in a local restaurant on the way.

    3:30 pm: Arrive at your accommodation at the Ma Pi Leng Ecolodge. Situated in one of the most spectacular locations in the region, the lodge offers an incredible panoramic view of the Nho Que River and the surrounding rugged rocky mountain.
    Take in the awe-inspiring scenery—an unforgettable experience that perfectly captures the natural beauty of Vietnam’s northern highlands. Spend the evening unwinding in this tranquil environment, soaking in the serene ambiance of your extraordinary surroundings.

  8. 8:30 am: After breakfast, your morning will begin with an exhilarating boat ride in the stunning Tu San Canyon, one of the three deepest canyons in Asia. This tour offers breathtaking views of the canyon’s towering walls and the serene, quiet waters of the river that winds through it. It’s a perfect opportunity for nature lovers and photographers alike to capture the canyon’s grandeur from a unique perspective.
    After the boat ride, you will enjoy a scenic short walk along a portion of the Ma Pi Leng pass, renowned for its spectacular views. This iconic mountain pass offers unparalleled panoramas of the surrounding landscape, including rugged peaks and lush valleys, making it an unforgettable part of your journey.
    1:00 pm: Enjoy a delicious late lunch in Dong Van Town, where you’ll get a taste of local flavors. Afterward, check in to your hotel and take some time to relax and recharge.
    Spend the afternoon at your leisure, exploring the charming Dong Van Ancient Town at your own pace. This historic area is known for its unique blend of traditional architecture and vibrant local culture. Stroll through the narrow streets, discover quaint shops and cafes, or simply immerse yourself in the tranquil atmosphere.
    Use this free time to unwind and enjoy the town’s delightful ambiance.

  9. 7:30 am: Start your morning with breakfast at the hotel and check out in preparation for your journey.
    8:30 am: As you head down the mountain and leave the Dong Van Karst Plateau, you’ll stop to visit the historic Vuong Family Palace. This impressive residence, often referred to as the "Palace of the Hmong King," boasts a rich history and remarkable architecture that blends Chinese, French, and Hmong influences.
    Built in the early 20th century, the palace offers insights into the life of Vuong Chinh Duc, a Hmong leader who played a significant role in the region’s history. Surrounded by picturesque landscapes, this stop is both culturally enriching and visually captivating.
    After exploring the historic Vuong Family Palace, you’ll continue your descent through the picturesque mountain scenery toward Quan Ba.
    12:00 pm: Make a stop for lunch break at Yen Minh town.
    In the afternoon, on the way down we’ll visit Lung Tam Village, a renowned Hmong craft village celebrated for its traditional brocade weaving. Here, you’ll have the unique opportunity to observe Hmong women diligently working at their looms, creating exquisite brocade and linen pieces from flax fibers.
    Weaving fine brocade is a source of pride for Hmong women, and the intricate patterns and vibrant colors reflect their cultural heritage. The brocade products of Lung Tam are highly sought after by both domestic and international visitors. What sets this village apart is its traditional and sustainable weaving process, which has become a captivating feature for visitors.
    During your visit, you’ll also gain insight into the daily lives of the locals and their dedication to preserving this ancient craft.
    4:00 pm: Conclude your journey by arriving at the cozy homestay in Nam Dam Village, a peaceful and picturesque setting surrounded by serene mountain landscapes. This charming village offers an authentic cultural experience and is home to the Dao ethnic minority.
    Settle into the homestay and enjoy a relaxing evening, savoring a home-cooked meal and the warm hospitality of your hosts. Spend the night soaking in the tranquility of this beautiful village, preparing for more adventures ahead.

  10. 7:30 Breakfast and coffee or tea
    Today, you’ll begin your journey back to Hanoi, traveling at a relaxed pace. Along the way, you’ll cross the Heaven Gate of Quan Ba, a breathtaking mountain pass offering spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and valleys. This is an ideal spot to pause and take in the incredible scenery, perfect for photography and reflection.
    12:00 am: Stop at a local restaurant along the way to enjoy a delicious lunch and recharge for the rest of the journey.
    4:00 pm: Arrive at Ngoi Tu Village, located near the serene Thac Ba Lake, one of Vietnam’s largest artificial lakes. Here, you’ll settle into a welcoming homestay, surrounded by the tranquil beauty of the lake and its lush surroundings.
    Spend the rest of the day relaxing and enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the village. This stop provides an excellent opportunity to immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the area while experiencing the warm hospitality of the local community.

  11. 8:00 am: After breakfast, we’ll take a couple of hours to explore Ngoi Tu Village on foot. Stroll through the village to observe the traditional stilt houses and immerse yourself in the local culture. This walk offers a chance to interact with the friendly villagers and learn more about their daily lives and customs. After your village exploration, board the bus for your journey back to Hanoi. Enjoy the scenic drive as you leave behind the serene countryside.
    1:00 pm: Arrive in Hanoi’s Old Quarter, take a famous Vietnamese dish originating from Hanoi – “Bun Cha” during the time waiting to check in your hotel. And then the rest of the day is yours to enjoy at your leisure. Take this time to explore the vibrant streets, shop for souvenirs, or simply relax.

  12. If you wish to see how the Hanoi people rise and shine in the morning, wake up early and run to a lake close by your hotel, you can join an exciting scene of hundreds of locals, passionately attentive in their morning exercises of Tai Chi quan, jogging, martial arts, classical dance and so on.
    After breakfast at the hotel, we will head to Halong Bay, a Natural World Heritage as designated by UNESCO since 1994 and 2006, and check-in our overnight boat. Enjoy a trip on Halong with stops to visit caves or to swim and enjoy the sunset on the sea. Dinner with fresh seafood. Overnight onboard.

  13. Morning wakes up with a taichi-quan or yoga exercises guided by the crew before having breakfast whilst your boat goes on between Halong islets. Return to the Wharf to be back to Hanoi by shuttle bus at midday. Arrive in the city around 3-4pm. Overnight in Hanoi.

  14. After breakfast, free at leisure for relax or shopping (your own arrangement) before transferring to the airport for your onwards flight back home. End of service.
