What to know about Ta Prohm (Giant Tree Temple) in Cambodia

Beside Angkor Wat has been well known for its massive, unique architechture, though, there are still many other beautiful and must-see temple that you should not miss, one of them is Ta Prohm temple.  Built from 1186 and originally known as Rajavihara (Monastery of the King), Ta Prohm was a Buddhist temple dedicated to the mother of Jayavarman VII. This temple entrance fee is included in entrance ticket of Angkor temple pass and open from 6am until close at 5pm. 

Ta Prom is one of the most important temple for highlight of Angkor Tour for some tourist who have time for a day to visit temple in Siem Reap, most of area of temple covered by Giant tress with big root covered roof of the temple and also this temple known as Tom Raider temple where is Hollywood movie taken.   

Interestingly, the temple was also the headquarters of a vast hospital network created by the king. From Ta Prohm, supplies filtered out to 102 hospitals located throughout the empire.

There are a few ways to visit this Ta Prohm temple from your hotel/guest house in Siem Reap

1. By private Car

This way cost high price if compare to other ways but it is most convenience some with hot weather after visit, you can spend time with A/C. we will spend around 30 minutes to reach out of parking area and price around $30 if you mainly visit only this temple included pick up and drop at your hotel/center.

2. By Remork (Tuk Tuk)

This is second way with a bit lower cost if compare to Car as open air transportation with roof to protect sunshine/ rain. Time will spend around 45 minutes to arrive at parking area and cost around $10-$12 for mainly visit only this temple or some do only 1 way as they will find the way back to center by themselves as it is cost around $7-$8/way.

3. By Motorbike

This way cost lower if you alone along with driver but if you want to drive by your owner, your friend/partner can ride behind as maximum 2pax per motorbike. It is around 1hr drive to take you there and if your hire motor driver by your own, it will cost around $10/motor with 2 Liter of Gasoline and the rest you need to spend by your own with parking fee and safety of keeping it but if you hire motor with driver, it is cost around $12 but you can explore more with other temple around and also no need to spend something else.

4. This is the last way as by bicycle

You can hire bike from your hotel/guest house/ from bike shop and take a ride to visit this temple as it is a bit adventure way but to ride with more relax does not matter since the way is smooth and not complicate. To reach this temple by bike, it will spend around 1hr30minutes to 2hrs as depend on how you ride and bike rental price start from $2 up to $7 as depend on kind of bike and you have to take all own response from start until finish at your stay/shop.

Tips: There are some stages for a nice/group photo shooting with the giant tree roots covered temple and also kindly keep follow the plan of rout indicted or stay with your guide to avoid getting lost since some area of temple are impassable and other are accessible only with narrow dark passages.
