Ca Ninh coconut forest used to be a stronghold of the army and people of Binh Son district during the resistance war against the US. Today, the coconut forest grows with rows of tall coconut trees creating many streams and canals running endlessly. Stretching along a large tributary of the Tra Bong River, the coconut forest, in addition to the value of air conditioning and providing seafood, also helps people develop tourism services.

According to people in Binh Phuoc commune, this coconut palm forest is hundreds of years old. Since ancient times, people have seen the benefits of keeping the coconut forest for a living, they catch fish, catch crabs, wade through the lagoon to cut each coconut leaf and stare it back into big sheets for roofs, awnings, barns. Over time, the coconut forest is still a place for people to live, from weaving coconut leaves, selling coconuts, rowing boats to visitors...

Previously, there was a period when the Ca Ninh coconut forest was destroyed the most, in the years 1989 to 2001. At that time, tiger shrimp farming brought high income, so many people massively destroyed coconuts and encroached on the river to raise shrimp spontaneously. But after only a few years, the water source was polluted and the farmed shrimp died. A series of ponds were abandoned, people switched to the profession of staring at coconut leaves, knitting… Therefore, the area of coconut forest is also preserved.

Currently, people can only harvest benefits from the coconut forest once or twice a year, from January to February and from June, July, and August. Not only selling coconut leaves, many families also benefit from catching shrimp and fish in creeks. The coconut tree has been associated with people's lives for many generations, so people always have a sense of protecting the forest.
