Ba Be Lake is located around 220 kilometers from Hanoi in Nam Mau commune, Ba Be district, Bac Kan province. The natives call Ba Be lake as Siam Pe, which translates to three lakes. The lake gets its name from the meeting of three rivers of the Pe Lam, Pe Lu, and Pe Leng rivers.
The lake is 8 kilometers long and 3 kilometers wide, and it is located at a height of 145 meters above sea level. Not only is the lake one of the top 20 largest natural freshwater lakes in the world, but it has also been recognized as an ASEAN heritage garden since 2004.
