Vietnam airlines officially sign up for the international vaccine passport program

Vietnam Airlines has become the first airline in Vietnam to sign an agreement with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to trial the IATA Travel Pass (ITP) application.

Vietnam Airlines will cooperate with IATA to test health passports from June

On May 31, Vietnam Airlines had signed an agreement with IATA to trial the IATA Travel Pass electronic health passport application, which will deploy in June 2021. This can be considered as the key to opening the border, creating favorable conditions for foreigners to travel between countries, and at the same time meeting all entry requirements of the authorities and the Government at the destination. IATA will support and coordinate closely with Vietnam Airlines throughout the test.

The process includes a selected number of passengers to download the free ITP app on their mobile phones, create a digital profile with photos and passport information, and fill out flight information to stay up to date on epidemiological requirements at the destination.

Before departure, passengers must schedule a test at a facility designated by the host government and registered with IATA. Then share the test results electronically and confirm flight status with the airline before starting the journey. The application helps airlines and authorities check the validity of certificates and easily identify passengers. All of the information is secure and is only shared with the passenger's permission.

The IATA Travel Pass holds the key to the re-launch of the travel and tourism industry, an important contributor to the country's economy," Nick Careen, IATA Senior Vice President of Airport Operations, Passenger, Cargo and Security said.

ITP integrates some leading digital solutions such as contactless travel, electronic certificates, and biometrics, which is convenient and effective because it can replace paper health certificates. This secure application ensures consistent information between parties, including government and testing facilities, airlines, and passengers.
The vaccine passport is one of the most expected solutions for Vietnam to quickly and safely open its border, supporting the tourism and aviation industries after a year of being heavily affected by COVID-19.
