Although being a predominantly Buddhist country, Christmas is still one of the five main annual festivals in Vietnam beside Gregorian New Year, Lunar New Year, Mid-autumn festival, and Buddha’s birthday. Christmas in Vietnam is a grand party when the fun-loving and sociable Vietnamese, whether being a Christian or not, celebrate with gusto. Especially in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, Christmas celebrations there are like any other city in the western country.

On this occasion, both cities are full of Christmas decorations, with thousands of its residents blissfully taking photos in the sparkling lights of the glorious nightlife. On Christmas Eve (24th December 2013) the Christians would attend a midnight Mass. After Church people would return to their homes for the most important meal the Christmas supper. The European customs of Santa Claus and the Christmas tree are popular and children would leave their socks out on Christmas Eve for Santa Claus’s gifts.

In Hanoi, you should take a short walk around the Old Quarter as it may remind you of your hometown with Christmas Trees; snowmen made from cotton or numbers of Santa and his reindeers on sides of clothe stores. Christmas is also when high-star hotels in Hanoi offer the most luxury buffet party and hilarious music performance. Standing out among the hotels should be Sofitel Metropole Hanoi where 1001 fairy tales are reproduced in one night in its La Beaulieu and Spices Garden restaurant. Otherwise, tourists can still enjoy a luxury Christmas night at Hilton Hanoi Opera, Melia Hanoi or Hanoi Daewoo.

For those who are in Ho Chi Minh City, don’t forget to visit September 23 Park in District 1 or Suoi Tien Theme Park in District 9 to enjoy many ornament festivals. For dinning out, you can opt for a scrumptious meal in such premier hotels as Duxton Hotel, Equatorial, Movenpick, and InterContinental Asiana etc.
