New Flights by Lao Air
Lao Airlines plans to increase flights on some of its domestic and international routes and add more aircraft to its fleet.
According to Lao Airlines’ commercial department, the airline plans to increase flights from Vientiane and Oudomxay, Bokeo and Luang Namtha from three, or four flights weekly, to daily beginning this October.
Flights between Vientiane and Luang Prabang, Champassak, Savannakhet and Xieng Khuang provinces will remain the same.
The department’s general director, Phoutthasone Vannachack said: “The airline also plans to add an extra flight on its Luang Prabang-Bangkok sector, and will increase flights on the Luang Prabang-Hanoi sector from one to two flights daily.”
There are plans to serve new routes between Vientiane and Phnom Penh, and between Phnom Penh and Ho Chi Minh City.
“In September, the airline will end charter flights between Vientiane and Incheon in South Korea and will begin operating schedule flights on the route in October,” he said.
The director added that next year the airline plans to add two more ATR72-600s to its fleet. The first is expected to arrive in Laos in March and the second in August. In 2015, Lao Airlines plans to buy two more Airbus 321 aircaft.
Established in 1976, the national carrier’s fleet currently comprises of 14 aircraft; four A320s, four ATR72-500s, two ATR72-600s and four MA60s.
In 2009, the airline handled 358,000 passengers up from 365,000 in 2008. In 2010, the figure rose to about 412,000 and then to 531,000 in 2011. In 2012 the number of passengers rose to 658,000.
Lao Airlines has code share arrangements with Thai Airways and Vietnam Airlines, and interline agreements with 20 airlines including China Airlines, China Eastern, Korean Air, EVA Air, Silk Air, Qantas, Hahn Air and Bangkok Airways.
