The key focus will be on Can Tho City and the provinces of An Giang, Kien Giang and Hau Giang, where cruises, festivals and beach resort services are already being developed.
The Ca Mau peninsula cluster with Ca Mau, Bac Lieu and Soc Trang provinces will offer trips through mangrove forests and Khmer festivals.
The eastern coastal cluster comprising of Tien Giang, Ben Tre, Vinh Long and Tra Vinh will focus on river tours, craft villages and revolutionary historical sites.
Meanwhile, Dong Thap Muoi cluster in Long An and Dong Thap will focus on ecotourism in wetlands.
From now until 2015, the localities will ramp up their lodging and entertainment infrastructure, while My Tho, Can Tho, Chau Doc, Rach Gia and Phu Quoc tourist ports will be developed.
Last year, the region welcomed nearly 24 million arrivals with 2 million foreigners, generating over US$220 million in revenue, up 11% from 2012.
