Easier Visa To South Korea For Vietnamese Travelers

South Korea is easing the rule on proof of financial status for Vietnamese travelers while reducing the visa fees to encourage travel.

Korean National Tourism Administration marketing director for Vietnam, Le Thi Thu Trang, said the fee had been cut from US$30 to US$20, while the visa will continue to allow a stay of up to 90 days.

To obtain a visa, applicants must show they had at least US$5,000 in a bank account for three months before applying for the visa, but now they can also show a certificate that they are golden and silver credit card members of Korea’s Shinhanbank.

If they do not have a credit card with the Korean bank they will still have to show they have funds of at least US$5,000.

The director cited: “We have tried introducing the procedure of financial capability provability through Sinhanbank cardholder certificates first in Hanoi over recent months and will now extend the facility to Ho Chi Minh City.”

The rule is also a clever way for the bank to increase card holders.

Over the past five years visits to South Korea have doubled and the country will become one of South Korea’s key tourism markets in the near future.

South Korea welcomed nearly 99,800 Vietnamese tourists in January to September this year, up 8% year-on-year.
