Golf Travel Expand in Cambodia

Cambodia is expanding into golf marketing to support courses near Siem Reap.

Golf holidays in Cambodia are new and fresh and can be packaged alongside cultural sightseeing.

Golf is being linked to visits to Siem Reap, the home of Angkor Wat, where golfers can first take in cultural sightseeing and then play at three international golf courses, located nearby.

Currently, there are eight golf courses in the country — three in Siem Reap (Angkor Golf Resort; Phokeethra Country Club; and Siem Reap Booyoung Country Club); and five in Phnom Penh (Cambodia Golf & Country Club; City Golf Cambodia; Garden City Golf Club; Grand Phnom Penh Golf Club; and Royal Cambodia Phnom Penh GC).

In Phnom Penh, a Nick Faldo designed Vattanac Golf Resort will open by 2015. Another course will be built at Ream Resort, located between Sihanoukville and Kampot. The first phase will start with a driving range in 2014 and then follow with an 18-hole course in 2017.

Golf is already a major sports tourism activity in Thailand with five major golf destinations promoted by the TAT; Bangkok, Phuket, Hua Hin, Pattaya and Chiang Mai.

Golf tourism spends around Bt100,000 per visitor, excluding flights – three times the average of other tourists.
