New Sightseeing Flights Over Mandalay

Myanmar Airways will assign two recently purchased 12-seat Grand Caravan Ex planes to provide sightseeing flights over Mandalay.

According to a local media report, the flights will last 15 minutes, and will be available just twice a week. The plane will fly over Mandalay Hill, Yankin Hill, U Bein Hill and Sagaing Hill offering scenic flights for foreign tourists. Read More

Visa-free To Myanmar For Cambodians

Myanmar and Cambodia have agreed on mutual visa exemption for holders of ordinary passports.

The agreement was signed by Myanmar Deputy Foreign Minister U Tin Oo Lwin and Cambodian Ambassador to Myanmar Sieng Burvuthin Nay Pyi Taw.


The agreement will mean citizens of the two countries can visit without the need to apply for a visa.

In February 2011, Myanmar established air links with Cambodia and Myanmar Airways international (MAI) introduced a service between Yangon and Siem Reap in April. It extended the service to Phnom Penh in November 2011.

Record Growth in Yangon’s Passenger Traffic

Yangon’s international airport should close the year with around 2.3 million passenger movements according to the latest estimate by the Department of Civil Aviation.

The department general director, Tin Naing Tun, said the increase in passenger traffic was driven by a mix of business visitors keen to check out investment opportunities as well as tourists.


Yangon International Airport has recently been upgraded.

In 2012, the airport handled 1.9 million foreign passengers and 1.1 million Myanmar citizens, compared to 1.45 million foreign passengers and 1 million locals in 2011.

Myanmar Border Bridge Open Longer

Opening hours for the Myawady-Mae Sot Friendship Bridge border crossing between Myanmar and Thailand will be extended to 05:00 to 20:00, instead of 06:00 to 18:00, to support trade and tourism.

The new opening hours need to be approved by both countries.

According to local media in Myawady, an official at the bridge checkpoint said: “We have received instructions from the Kayin State government to extend the opening hours at the Friendship Bridge. The Myanmar side is ready. It is now up to Thai officials to respond.”
